Re: Ash - ejected from Augustine Volcano
Hi Ken, Thanks for your note. I can confirm that Augustine is NOT erupting. I'm not sure what you saw - you can send me one of the photos if you like (cheryl.cameron@alaska.gov) thank you, cheryl Greetings. My wife and I recently took a Holland-America cruise to Alaska. On our way to Valdez from Anchorage, I was on the back Lido deck (open air) - and looking westward as we round the tip of the Kenai Peninsula I saw what looked like a long streaming tanish-coloured ash cloud heading from the mouth of the Augustine volcano and northward towards the Cook Inlet. The time/date - 9 a.m. Friday, May 12th. I snapped a couple of distant photos thus not totally clear. But - the plume is visible. Can you confirm that there was activity at the volcano on this date? There's nothing on-line. Thanks. Ken Johnson, Langley, British Columbia Canada
